Beauty and the Beast Emma Watson Trailer

The first trailer for upcoming Disney live action movie Beauty and the Beast has finally dropped, starring Emma Watson in the lead as Belle.

Bill Condon, best known for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, is directing the remake from a script by Stephen Chbosky, who directed Watson in The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

Watson first announced her casting in January 2015, writing on her official Facebook page that the animated film was “such a big part of her growing up”. “My six-year-old self is on the ceiling, heart bursting,” she said. “Time to start some singing lessons. I can’t wait for you to see it.”

She is joined in the film by Dan Stevens as the Beast, Luke Evans as Gaston, Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, Ewan McGregor as Lumiere and Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts. Josh Gad, Stanley Tucci, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Kevin Kline and Audra McDonald also star.

beauty-and-the-beast live action movieHere are four things that caught our eye:

1. As per usual Disney swapped out the usual Magic Kingdom castle for the castle that would be in the film, but what’s subtle about this change is that at first all the lights inside are off. But as the shooting star makes its way across the sky, a light turns on at the top and Beast’s silhouette can be seen. Oh hey, Dan Stevens, we (kind of) see you.

2. The whole trailer is a time lapse. As scenery from inside the castle is shown, the decorations first appear in all their grandeur but they quickly become dilapidated and cobweb-infested as time goes by and Beast remains a shut-in.

3. “Look! A girl!” Who are those voices peeking out from the dark? Oh, you know, just Lumière (Ewan McGregor) and Cogsworth (Ian McKellan). We don’t get to see them but we do get tohear them at least.

4. We really only get to see Belle’s (Emma Watson) eyes and eyebrows as she discovers the magical rose inside the glass container, but a close eye also reveals her hand and a ring. Could that ring mean something special? Is it something symbolic? Perhaps it’s just a small gift from her father, but we’ll just have to wait and see when the movie hits theaters next year.
